The Los Angeles Zoo’s chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) recently held its annual Bowling for Rhinos fundraiser at Glendale’s Jewel City Bowl. The monies raised each year help support efforts to protect black and white rhinos in Kenya’s Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and Javan and Sumatran rhinos in three Indonesian national parks. Among the celebrities who bowled for rhinos at this event were Carolyn Hennesy, host of the radio program Animal Magnetism, and several of the child actors – Kyle Red Silverstein, Braxton Beckham, Emma Fuhrmann, and Alyvia Alin Lind – who appear in the movie Blended, which opens later this month. While filming in South Africa, the actors became aware of the illegal trade in rhino horn and decided to help support anti-poaching efforts by Bowling for Rhinos
On behalf of the world’s critically endangered Javan and Sumatran rhinos, IRF thanks all those who bowled to raise funds for Rhino Protection Units in Indonesia.
